Private English Tutor

One-to-one English tutoring in West London and online.

One-to-one English tuition for children in Years 2 to 6, with a focus on building strong foundations for the 11+. Lessons develop reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar, alongside the skills needed to plan, structure and refine written responses. Through personalised teaching and targeted practice, I help pupils analyse texts, support their answers with evidence and write clearly and accurately, building confidence for 11+ English assessments.

What Does a One-to-One English Tutor Cover?

A one-to-one English tutor helps a child become a stronger reader and a more confident writer. With me, that means reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and creative and persuasive writing, all matched to your child’s age and goals, whether that is school progress, the 11+ or the KS2 SATs.

Reading &
Comprehension

Reading between the lines, finding evidence and answering in full sentences.

Creative
Writing

Planning a story, building tension and choosing precise, vivid words.

Grammar &
Punctuation

Clear rules, explained simply, then used in real writing.

Vocabulary &
Spelling

Wider vocabulary and the spelling patterns behind tricky words.

About me

After 13 years of primary teaching, I have learned that most children who struggle with English are not short of ideas. They are short of tools: a plan for a story, a way to find evidence in a text, the right word at the right moment.

As a private English tutor, I give children those tools one at a time. We read together, talk about what the writer is doing, and then try it ourselves. Grammar is taught inside real sentences, not as a list of terms to memorise.

Because every lesson is one-to-one, I can read your child’s writing line by line and show them exactly how to make it better.

My Approach to English

How English Tutoring Works

Every programme starts with your child’s reading and writing as they are today, then builds steadily towards the next goal.

Strong Foundations for GCSE English

I teach primary-age children, not GCSE students. But most of the difficulties a GCSE English tutor sees in Year 10 began years earlier: skimming instead of reading closely, a narrow vocabulary, and writing without a plan.

Strong one-to-one English tuition in Years 4 to 6 deals with those habits while they are still easy to change. Children arrive at secondary school able to analyse a text, structure an answer and write with control, which is exactly what GCSE English asks of them later.
